The Moto X successor gets a new possible name as Moto Maker info leaks

The new Moto X will be going official this week, but we’re all still thirsty for information regarding the device. One thing we’ve thought was almost certain since the leak train started rolling in early April was the name: in one of the first leaks of the phone, the name “Moto X+1″ was dropped, and in subsequent leaks it came up over and over again. Today, though, we’re hearing new information, as the name may not be Moto X+1 at all.

According to sources of Phandroid at Verizon, the company’s internal computer system shows the device simply as “The new Moto X.” This isn’t all that surprising, but it’s still different than what we were all expecting to see. This name, according to the source, is also being referenced on accessories and other products concerning the phone, so it’s looking quite likely. Keep in mind though, that the name “Moto X+1″ has some solid evidence pointing to that name as well, so either way, we’re not quite sure.

Also mentioned through this leak is some information about Moto Maker. It looks like the device customization service will be available on Verizon right from the get-go, which is refreshing to know as AT&T had quite a lengthy exclusive on the service last year with the Moto X.

Our own Adam Doud will be live at the event to bring us information straight from the horse’s mouth, and we have a lengthy rumor roundup piece for the new Moto X scheduled to go live tomorrow – so be sure to check back with us for those.

HTC One Mini on AT&T finally gets Sense 6 OTA

Many of us here at Pocketnow have been quite disappointed with the lack of love for “mini” phones – they’re generally crammed with mid-range specs, don’t get wide carrier adoption, and lag behind in terms of support and updates. The HTC One Mini update to Sense 6 is long overdue according to many, but it’s finally here for AT&T users.

The update, which weighs in at a hefty 550MB, brings quite a few changes to the aging device. Apart from the base Sense 6 features, there are updates to the Gallery and Camera app, the addition of Extreme Power Saving Mode, and other miscellaneous fixes and improvements.

  • HTC Sense 6 update
  • Color coded themes for easy navigation
  • Personalized Font style
  • Extreme Power Saving Mode
  • Button that clears all recent apps
  • New interface for Gallery and Camera
  • Image Match function to find photos faster in the Gallery
  • Support POI (Points of interest) location in Gallery’s Map view
  • Smoother BlinkFeed, continuous scrolling experience
  • New BlinkFeed UI to intuitively add new content
  • Nearby restaurant recommendations
  • Schedule function for the Do Not Disturb mode
  • Improved Music app

The massive update has begun its rollout now; if you don’t yet see it available for download, sit tight as it should be making its way to your device shortly.

(Xbox) Music gets live tile visualisations (at last)

Published by at 8:26 UTC, August 28th 2014

The Xbox Music development team are continuing to make progress (the previous update was reported on here), building in everything that used to be in the integral Windows Phone 7 music player, plus a lot more. See below for the official changelog.

From the official User Voice post:

The ninth update for the Windows Phone 8.1 Music App is now available in the store! This is a big one, and we’re happy to announce one of your most hotly anticipated features – Live Tile! Please enjoy, and as always – let us know what you think.

In version 2.6.224 you will find:

  • You can now see incredible artist art & visualizations when playing music on your LIVE TILE! Requires Update 1 (OS Version #8.10.14141 & higher)
  • Album art should show up much more reliably in all areas of the app
  • We also fixed several significant bugs, with a focus on:
  • Performance / page loads
  • Preventing any unexpected app exits
  • Reducing our memory footprint, resulting in less app suspensions & terminations during multi-tasking
  • Addressing playlist duplication issues
  • Cleaning up Recent Plays interactions

Screenshot fragment

It all looks smooth and functional on our test Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 (DP) devices, although for all my albums ended up with just a simple animated album artist name animation, as shown above – see the User Voice link for a ‘tips’ link if you fancy messing around in Windows Media Player to embed artwork in the ‘right’ way. Most other platforms are now compatible with multiple album art schemes – why can’t Xbox Music do the same?

I did also note that the code still wasn’t 100% compiled for Windows Phone 8.1, i.e. there are still optimisations to come (watch for an editorial on this later today).
